30in. Whitworth-steel nitro barrel with raised ventilated tapering matt top-rib, high visibility bead fore-sight and ivorine intermediate bead sight, the breech end engraved 'J. PURDEY & SONS. AUDLEY HOUSE. SOUTH AUDLEY STREET. LONDON.' and 'MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH'S FLUID PRESSED STEEL', 2 3/4in. chamber, bored approx. 3/4 choke, treble-grip action with removable striker disc, manual safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, cocking-indicator, best fine acanthus scroll engraving with floral bouquets, the right side with decorative sideplate to match, 14 5/8in. well-figured stock including 1 1/8in. rubber recoil pad, beavertail fore-end with small plug, weight 7lb. 13oz., in its brass-cornered oak and leather case

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the gun was completed on 26th October 1928 as 'a 12-bore (2 3/4in.) single-barrelled hammerless ejector trap gun', choked to pattern 70% at 40 yards, Lyman sights, manual safety, 'modified forend' for Von Lengerke & Detmold

Other Notes: In his book 'James Purdey & Sons Gun & Rifle Makers - Two Hundred Years of Excellence', Donald Dallas dates the commencement of Purdey's building these high quality trap guns immediately following Athol Purdey's trip to the USA in 1922 to promote sales and identify what the American market demanded.
The first one, No. 22417 was sold in 1923 and just 59 were produced between 1923 and 1972.
